Important! This guide is destined for PC users.
Introduction
Hello! Here, on this page, you will know how to create a unit page for the wiki using a pre-made template in order to help on the creation! Here, you will also learn how to use both the Visual Editor and the Source Editor to do so. To follow this guide, it's recommended to copy and paste the template's source by pressing "View Source" and copying all of it, then start learning on both Blog posts and your own Sandbox page!
Creating your own Sandbox page
In order to create a Sandbox, first, go to your Profile. On a PC, look for a side bar. Then, at the very bottom of it, there's a bell icon (notifications) and your current Fandom picture. Put your mouse above it, then click on "View Profile".
Once you are there, click on the "Sandbox" option, and you will be taken to your own Sandbox. There, create the page and paste the template you copied. Even if you use the Visual Editor, the source will automatically be converted into the Template page without needing to switch to Source Editing. Once that's done, then you're all set! Time to learn how to create and edit unit pages!
Creating a Blog post
In order to create a Blog post, first, go to your profile by following the instructions above. Then, instead of clicking on "Sandbox", press "Blog", then "Create a Blog post". Unlike Sandboxes, you will need to give a title to it, but don't worry! Just put a title like "My unit" or, if you already want to make your own unit concept, just put the title as it's name.
Blog posts can be more versatile due to the fact that there is no limit of how much you can create, while there's only one Sandbox per account. No matter what of those two methods you choose, as long as they are created, you are set to making your own unit page!
The Overview
The overview will give a general vision of the unit, giving info about the tower's rarity, what character the unit is based off and what series is it from. Here, you may also list it's obtainment method and, if it can be evolved, the requirements to do so.
To start off, delete the Unit Name on the page and replace it with the unit's in-game name (ex: Koku instead of Goku) on bold letters. Fill out the stars amount, the character it's based on and the series he comes from, and, if possible, add more info about the unit. If they do have an evolution, fill the evolution table, both if it has a pre-evolution or if it is the evolved version. Some units may have both of those evolution tables. If not, just delete it. An in-depth explanation of this table will be done on the Editors section.
Evolution Table - Visual Editor
In Visual Editor mode, the Evolution table will simply appear as a table. You will need to add cells(as the example 3 cells for required, 1 cell for the result) and VERY IMPORTANT Remember to merge cells at the result and set the name in the middle(exactly as the excel/word tables). But in the first place you have to create a table for that you will need to go to "insert" and chose table or more easily you can go to the Unit Template page and just copy and paste the hole template.
Evolution Table - Source Editor
Check the template. The evolution board is listed as |class="wikitable". In there, head to the "Required units" section and fill out the "X" with the evolution materials needed for the unit, and how much is needed. (ex: 1x Alien Soldier, 2x Strong Alien Soldier III). If all materials are listed, delete the rest of the "X". If (somehow) it needs more then what the template offers, create a new paragraph and put | before inserting the rest of the units. Done? Then, go to "Result" and put the new unit's name between <center> and </center>. And done! You made a evolution table by yourself! But there's still more parts of the page to create. But before that...
Element 1 - Hyperlinks
See the "pre-made template" in yellow at the top of the page? It redirects to a whole new page without needing to paste the whole page link onto it. That's a hyperlink: a way to shorten links without needing to put it all onto a page. There are two types: those that redirect to a wiki article and those that redirects to an external site. Both will be covered up here.
Hyperlinks - Visual Editor
If you want to use a hyperlink that can redirect you to a page of this wiki(internal) or other wikis/sites (external) you will have to chose the link button(that one that looks like a chain). And you'll see a menu with the name add a link. At the first you will see the ASTD Wiki links that you can use, but if you click external, you can link EVERYTHING but not really everything unless you want a ban... heh, leaving the joke behind you can link really everything. But you will need that exact link to do it. After it press insert and done.
Hyperlinks - Source Editor
Wiki Article
If you want the hyperlink to redirect to a wiki article, you can both use the Link Button available on both types of editors, OR put two of each of those symbols: [ and ], used on the front and back respectively. Then, write the page's name inside it (example: Zaruto) and a basic redirect using the page's name is done. But, what if you don't want the redirect to be just a plain page name? What if you wanted to make the link be clickable onto more words instead of the page name? Then, after writing the page's name, put a | and write there. (example: team rating page).
External Site
For external sites, it's a bit different. Open the command box with both symbols listed above, but only use ONE of each for that, and paste the page's link. Do NOT put the |, but instead, press the spacebar and write the text that will be shown there. (example: Black Clover)
Hyperlink uses for wiki editing
- Point information about the original character by linking it's name to a wiki (like Goku to it's page on the Dragon Ball Wiki) or the series (like Bleach to it's Wikipedia article);
- Link wiki pages for the evolution table;
- Make the Unit Categories part of the page cleaner;
- And many more uses.
The Stats Overview
The Stats Overview is the most visited part of the page, as it displays the unit's stats, both as a Level 1 and as a max Level, showing all the unit's upgrades, it's money cost, the attack type, and various other things. Here, a display of the unit, alongside a character quote (a famous line that can define a character, usually said on the moment the unit represents, like Luffy (usually without a Gear active) saying "I will be the King of Pirates!" while him on the Gear 4th: Snakeman form says "Gear 4th: Snakeman!"). It also displays a unit's total cost, enchant, and unit type. There are two elements to keep an eye out: Outer Shell Part, where you put a unit's stats (like Damage, SPA, Range) and the Tower Infobox, with the unit image, quote, total cost, element (if it has one) and many others. First, let's take a look at the Tower Infobox.
Tower Infobox - Visual Editor
Tower Infobox, to edit it with the Visual Editor you will need to click on any part of it and a template message will appear, then press edit. It is very important to know the stats and know where to place them.
Tower Infobox - Source Editor
Go to the purple part of the page. Right below "Stats Overview", there's "Tower Infobox". Once you are there, there will be loads of blank spaces, each one with one purpose. Here's an explanation of all of them:
- title1: Unit's in-game name.
- image1: The unit's in-game image. Remember to always put the image format afterwards, because if you don't, the image will not work (example: .png, .jpg)
- caption1: The unit's quote.
- deployment_cost= How much money is needed to place down the unit
- upgrade_levels= The amount of upgrades the unit has.
- total_cost= The amount of money, in total, to fully upgrade a unit.
- enchant= The unit's enchant. To fill out this, remember to put a capital letter on the start, and no spaces after the enchant word, as it will automatically default to the enchant font and logo. Enchants supported: Fire, Water, Nature, Electric, Holy, Dark. If a unit does not have an enchant, leave it blank.
- tower_type= The unit's type. Here, you can fill out if the unit is a Hill, Ground, or Air unit, and if it has any other effect, such as a Special Ability, Burn, Economy, etc. If the unit, at some point, changes their tower type (most of the time, Ground to Air), point that out with this: ->.
- attack_type= The unit's attack type. Here, you fill out how does the unit attack. Does it attack only one target? Does it attack on a AOE in a Cone format? Circle format? Or hits Full range? No matter how the unit attacks, this is the section to fill that in. If a unit changes attack types at some point, point that out with this: ->. Remember, do it in order! Starting type -> New type. (example: Single -> AOE (Cone) -> AOE (Full) -> Single)
- damage= Here, you fill the unit's Level 1 starting damage on the left side of the arrow, and on the right side, it's Level 1 max upgrade damage. If a unit does not have a damage stat, leave it blank.
- seconds_per_attack= Here, you fill the unit's starting SPA on the left side of the arrow, and (if it changed until then) the max upgrade SPA. If a unit does not have a SPA stat, leave it blank.
- range= Here, you fill the unit's starting range on the left side of the arrow, and (if it changed until then) the max upgrade range.
Outer Shell Part - Visual Editor
The Outer Shell Part is the template where we see the stats of a unit, upgrades, attack gifs. From Visual editor you will need to click on each template(upgrade box) and you will see a template box from where you will need to write the next text lines: {{stats box|Upgrade_cost=ex. 1000|Upgrade_No=0| Damage=ex.100| Range=ex10|SPA= ex.2 and then below you'll write the type of attack(single, circle aoe, full aoe, etc) and the tower type(ground, hybrid, hill) in this way: |tower_type= ex. hybrid, |attack type= ex.full aoe. And then after you are done with writing every upgrade box click apply and you have finished. Very important: Take care to use the exactly formula as I write it, if you'll mistaken the formula, it will wont work, ex.= example and you shouldn't write it too, if you need help or assistance you can ask any person of our staff.
Outer Shell Part - Source Editor
Go to the purple part of the page. Below the end of Tower Infobox, there's "Main Stats - Outer Shell Part". In there, you will see that there are loads of stat boxes, all being Level 0. This means that the stats are actually Level 1 stats. Don't worry, you won't need to get the max Level stats, as it's automatically calculated based on the unit's first Level stats. On that section, there are also a lot of blank spaces, each with their purpose. Here's an explanation of them:
- Tower_Type= The unit's tower type, explained on Tower Infobox.
- Attack_Type= The unit's attack type, explained on Tower Infobox.
- Upgrade_Cost= How much money is needed to reach a upgrade level. On upgrade 0, it's the deployment cost. For upgrade 1 and above, look for the "Upgrade" button from one upgrade before the one you want to get the stats (example: If you want to get the upgrade cost for Upgrade 3, check the "Upgrade" button from Upgrade 2 in order to get that stat.)
- Upgrade_No= The number of the upgrade. As of the World 3 update, to get it, either hover your mouse at the unit itself (PC), activate unit display (mobile) or check the unit's stats GUI, look for the upgrade number and reduce 1 from it.
- Damage=|SPA=|Range= The unit's damage, SPA and range on that certain upgrade.
Burn=|Bleed=|Poison= If a unit deals Burn, Bleed or Poison damage, put =yes on each upgrade that the unit has it. If it has Black Flames, put Burn=yes|20 ticks. Remember, put it AFTER the Damage, SPA and Range stats.
- Text_Line_1= If, on a upgrade, a unit gets a new attack animation, Special Skill, etc., and it's indicated by "+(New Thing)", Text_Line_1 is used. Remember to always put the +, as it indicates that the unit did get something new!
- Text_Line_2= In case "+(New Thing)" changes the unit's mechanics, such as making the unit able to hit air enemies, change it's attack type, add a Special Skill, etc., Text_Line_2 is used to indicate that. (example: |Text_Line_1=+Big Sphere Attack|Text_Line_2=Attack type changes to AOE (Circle))
- img= The attack animation of a unit, usually on a .gif file.
Important!
- Before every "command" listed above, always put | at the start of it. Do not put at the end, unless the end of that command is followed by a new one one the same line right after.
- After each upgrade box, close it with }}, and if all of the stats are done, below the last stat box, do the same. (example: [pretend this is the last upgrade box]}} )
Element 2 - Uploading Files
Uploading files is essential for both the unit image, attack animations, Special Ability and the gallery. To do so, it's pretty simple: near the search icon, hover your mouse over the three dots and click on Upload New File.
Once you are there, click on the "Choose file" button (it automatically translates to your current language, so keep an eye on that). You will be prompted to upload a file that's saved on your PC. Choose the file you want to upload, then head to "Destination filename", where you can name the file. It's recommended to name those files on a way that they are related to the page (example: Ikki Upgrade 1.png).
The Special Ability
Important: If the unit does not have a Special Ability, delete that part from the template. It's there in case a unit does have one.
Some units have Special Abilities, manually activated skills that have many uses, such as Timestopping, Summoning, buffing your units, and even dealing damage. Let's take a look on how to create a Special Ability part, on both editors. And one more thing: remember to upload the ability's icon by using the info above!
Special Ability - Visual Editor
If you use the template and that unit has a special ability you should go to the Special ability part of the page and firstly name the ability in the heading section, ex: Part IV TimeStop. And then go under the Heading, write with Paragraph format and start explaining what is happening on the activation, like: Jotaro makes a stance and Star Platinum Stops the time for 5 secs while saying:Sutā Purachina Za Wārudo. And then you should add a picture of the ability card in the left and if you can, make a gif of how does the ability looks like.
Special Ability - Source Editor
Head to the Special Ability part of the page. First, we will put the ability's icon right below the heading. Type . If the image is too big, try putting "|80x80px" to set the size to 80 per 80 pixels. Then, press Enter to create one more line and start typing it's description. And done! It's really simple and easy to do.
The Unit Categories
Most units have categories, allowing them to be boosted by Leader Skills if they meet it's condition or to get a boost on Category modes. On this part of the page, we list the unit's Leader Skill (if it has one, of course) and their categories.
Unit Categories - Visual Editor
Go to the Unit Categories part of the Template and start writing at the Leader Skill, the name and what it does, ex: Villain, all units in villain category will do 10% more dmg. After this go under Leader Skill and write the other categories unit has. Of course, a unit can have multiple categories to be careful when writing them. And you should use hyperlinks for making the page more easier to use.
Unit Categories - Source Editor
Head to the Unit Categories part of the Template. First, add the unit's Leader Skill (if it has one). Once added, you can start adding the unit's categories! But wait! On the start of each line, put a *. This enables Bulleted Listing, explained on the Trivia section. Now, follow this format: (Category Name Here). This adds a link to the category page.
The Trivia
On the Trivia section, you can add some notes about buffs, nerfs, anime/manga inconsistencies, or just general fun facts about the unit and/or the character/series it's based off. In order to organize the trivia, for each paragraph, we use Bulleted Listing, a type of listing that uses dots. To use that on visual, click on the 3 lines with dots before them icon. Until pressed again, all new paragraphs will be written with Bulleted Listing. For Source Editing, at the start of each line, put a * symbol.
The Gallery
On the Gallery, we upload the unit's upgrade cards, being able to back them up with the stats shown. Fandom has it's own gallery feature, so you won't have to search for the images one by one (Visual) or type the "File:" command every for every image. Phew! As always, you will learn how to create a gallery with both editor modes.
Gallery - Visual Editor
You must go to the bottom of the page, where Gallery section is and use in the editing menu the images and media button, after you click it you'll see a smaller menu from where you can drag files from the wiki or upload one, when uploading one you will be able to insert it in your page, if the imagine is already uploaded then just press search and search your file.
Gallery - Source Editor
Go to the gallery part of the page. See the two boxes named "<gallery>" and "</gallery>"? Between those two, you will be adding the unit's upgrade cards. To do so, it's pretty easy: simply put the name of the file you want to add on a line between the two boxes listed above. No need to do the command shown before, just put the file's name, press Enter to skip a line and put the other image's name. Repeat it until you put all of the unit's upgrade cards.
Finishing up the page
After the gallery, it may seem that the page is done, but it's not! We still have to add a few more things in order to call it a complete page:
Page Categories
Those categories are important to sort pages, helping to find units with that same category, and aid on organizing them. Although the in-game categories are also used here, there are others that will co-relate with the unit's characteristics: tower type (example: Ground), rarity (ex.: 5-star characters), special abilities (ex.: Timestoppers, Support units) and series that the unit is based off (ex.: Units based on Sword Art Online characters).
Page Categories - Visual Editor
Press the gear icon near the Visual Editor button (editor mode). Then, press "Categories". In there, you will see a box saying "Add a category to this page". Write the categories there. When writing, look if there are any matching categories to the one you are trying to add. If there isn't, try re-writing on a different way or check if you made any spelling mistakes, but don't press to add a new category.
Page Categories - Source Editor
Right below the gallery, follow this format: . See how similar it is to adding Unit Categories? This time, don't add the : before "Category", as we don't want to put a category's link (to redirect you to it's page), but rather add the unit to it.
Table of Contents and Edit Section
Both the table of contents and the edit icon on each heading (edit section) are disabled on unit pages. The reason? Because these aren't needed to the page: the first one is supposed to help navigate, but unit pages are quite short, so no need for that. The second one is to make the page cleaner. In order to finish up a unit page, you will learn how to disable the Table of Contents and the Edit Section on both editors:
Table of Contents and Edit Section - Visual Editor
Click the gear icon to access the settings, then press "Page Settings". Once there, you will see some options, but out of those, two of them are important to us: "Show the Table of Contents", set by default as "If Needed" and "Disable the edit links next to each heading on this page", which is not marked.
On the first option, mark "Never". This completely disables the Table of Contents from showing up on the page, not even as condensed. On the second one, mark that option.
Table of Contents and Edit Section - Source Editor
At the very end of the page, simply write __NOTOC__ to disable the Table of Contents, press Enter and write __NOEDITSECTION__ to disable the edit links on headings. It's really simple!
Reminders
- Delete the suggestions on the page once you are done. They are marked with a ⓘ on Visual Editor and <!--/--> on Source and are supposed to help know the format each part should have.
- Double check if everything is right.
- Always be sure that the info you add is right.
- Never try to grief others pages, this will get you a ban.
- Don't put credits on the page, such as "Made by TDgamesarecool".
To finish off...
If you made it this far, you probably now know how to make a complete, full unit page. But if you still have some questions, don't worry! You can ask it on the comments section of this page or ping a Content Moderator/Admin/Owner so they can help you. Bye!
